The Hamner Institutes For Health Sciences Receives $1.6 Million NIH Grant

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Dr. William F. Greenlee, president and CEO of The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, an independent, nonprofit organization that offers an open, collaborative and cross-disciplinary approach to strengthen the research investment in biomedical sciences, has announced that Dr. Wenhong Cao, assistant investigator in the Division of Translational Biology at the Hamner, has been awarded $1.6 million to perform diabetes research over a span of five years. The grant is from the National Institutes of Health and will allow Dr. Cao to study new biochemical pathways of how the body maintains sugar balance and its relationship to weight regulation. This research is part of the Hamner's expanding program in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
