The Junior League of Kansas City has asked well known interior designer and Living Large host Karen Mills to decorate a Christmas tree for the 20th Anniversary Holiday Mart held October 18- 21st in the Overland Park Convention Center. The Christmas tree display features an inverted tree (upside down) suspended from the top of a gazebo that appears to float over an intimate table for two. Located by the escalator that takes attendees up to the Holiday Mart entrance, the display conjures up images of an enchanted snow covered forest as attendees pass by. Holiday Mart is the biggest fundraiser each year for the Junior League and this year’s Holiday Mart will also feature piano great, Jim Brickman. Mills asked local merchant, Kristen Cravens of Serendipity Accents, to assist by providing the decorations. Mills confided, “I feel privileged to be part of this Junior League fundraiser and wanted to think outside the box by displaying a unique tree that would help drive traffic to the mart. I talked with Kristen and she came up with the wonderful idea of hanging the tree from a gazebo.” Mills and Cravens worked together yesterday to design this one of a kind display for the Holiday Mart that begins today.
Mills also featured Holiday Mart co-chairs Heather Harper and Theresa Uchytil-Etler on her show, Living Large, to promote their annual fundraiser. Besides hosting Living Large, Mills designs interiors, writes for a national home magazine, speaks professionally and designs home décor items.
