Charleston Interior Design Firm Offers Design Tips, Trends From Fall High Point Market

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.— Employees of Coastal Classics Interiors, a full-service interior design firm and high-end home furnishings source in Mt. Pleasant, recently returned from the fall High Point Market, held Oct. 1-7 in North Carolina. Cathy Spencer, founder, and Andrea Kocher, head interior designer, offer several suggestions for locals who want to update their home with the latest industry trends.

• The blues and greens that have been popular the past few years are being replaced with earth tones and warm colors, says Kocher, and grey is the new neutral of choice in fabrics and woods. She is incorporating these color trends in several current residential design projects for her clients.

• Baker Furniture, Bungalow 5, Century Furniture and J. Banks all offered new furniture pieces at the market, which are available through Coastal Classics Interiors. These pieces have a shiny, clean-lined, lacquered look, and in some cases, an Asian flair, which Spencer says works well in contemporary rooms.

• The J. Banks line from Stanford Furniture, which Coastal Classics Interiors uses in many design projects, also showcased pieces with vivid colors, clean lines and eclectic upholstery. Kocher’s favorite piece is a round ottoman that combined a cool navy with silver bead-lined white waves around the base.

• Metallic and mirrors on furniture and accessories were also trendy, says Spencer. Coastal Classics Interiors offers several pieces with these embellishments from CR Currin and Interlude Home, Inc.

“By simply incorporating one or two of these trends, interiors can look new, fresh and innovative,” says Kocher. “It is important, though, to choose looks that suit the homeowner’s style and that meld well with their home’s current design. At Coastal Classics Interiors, we can provide clients help with finding the right styles for their needs and ensure a beautiful finished product.”

Held Oct. 1-7 in High Point, N.C., the fall High Point Market included 2,000 exhibitors, showcasing new products in the furniture industry. For more information, visit www.highpointmarket.org.
