As part of its goal to create an electronic medical record throughout its healthcare enterprise, Scott & White, a Temple, Texas-based 558-bed hospital, has gone live on information technology from DocuSys, Inc., a leading anesthesia information management system (AIMS) and medication management system provider.

“Scott & White has been moving toward an electronic medical record since the mid 90s,” said Dr. Jeff Ray Gibson, senior staff Anesthesiologist and chairman of the PeriOperative Systems Oversight Committee at Scott & White. “DocuSys is helping us achieve this goal by creating a PeriOperative electronic medical record solution that integrates well into our workflow. Protocol-driven alerts from within the system will help us realize patient safety benefits at the same time.”

DocuSys’ AIMS technology will seamlessly create a medical record of each surgical case in the 14,000 surgeries annually performed at Scott & White. Alerts developed from customizable care protocols created by the hospital will enhance patient safety. Documentation from the medical record will also help Scott & White demonstrate compliance with a variety of national safety initiatives.

“Scott & White has been proactive in developing its infrastructure to support an electronic medical record,” said Robert E. Watson, DocuSys president and chief executive officer (CEO). “We are pleased to have been chosen to provide our solution for their operating rooms.”

DocuSys’ technology addresses all stages of a surgical case, providing a seamless flow of communication across the care team and integrating such information as a patient’s complete health history. Decision support functionality at the point of care enhances a clinician’s goal of preventing potential medication errors. Additional benefits of the system include ease of use, billing and charge capture automation and aligning such quality measures as CMS’ pay-for-performance (P4P) with financial objectives.
