October 17, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Downs Syndrome Derby, a charity that supports young people and their families in the local community, are inviting people to come along to their latest conference. The event, which is being held at The Derby Conference Centre on the 10th of November, will highlight some of the challenges faced by young people living with Down’s syndrome, and suggest way’s in which these can be addressed through constructive engagement.Taking a pro active approach the conference will combine keynote speeches and workshops, providing both information and practical advice on issues ranging from diet and exercise through to communication. Open to everyone, the event will be particularly useful to parents of young people with Down’s syndrome who may not be fully aware of the support available to them.
Helen Barr parent and trustee had this to say “We are looking to attract as many people as we can to the event. Sometimes it can feel as if you’re completely isolated when your child has learning difficulties. What we are attempting to do through the conference is to provide people with essential advice, as well as letting them know that there is a wider support community available to them both locally and nationally. The Derby Conference Centre has been incredibly supportive in this respect, having donated the use of the venue as part of their community initiative.”
The conference will be held on Saturday the 10th of November at The Derby Conference Centre, London Road. A full list of prices and further information about the event can be found on www.myspace.com/DownsSyndromeDerby. Alternatively you can phone 01332 231974 to book a place.
