Utah's Most Advanced Medical Spa Opens in Salt Lake City

Park City, UT — Surface Medical Spas, with skin centers in Park City and Layton, has teamed up with the Brickhouse Retreat in Sandy to provide Utah with the most comprehensive cosmetic offering in the state. In a lobby that shames most waiting rooms, patients take a seat in cozy armchairs around a mesmerizing 7 foot tall water figure reminiscent of the Greek goddess Aphrodite while waiting for appointments in the salon, the spa, or with Surface’s expert aesthetic physicians. For the first time a client in Utah can have them all at the same place.
Surface at Brickhouse is half deluxe spa, half medical practice. Shane Jones, owner of the Brickhouse Retreat says the goal was to engineer a true hybrid - not a medical spa that offers mere massages, or a place heavy on relaxation but thin on medical knowledge.
"We don't really need to sacrifice one in order to give the other," says Dr. Aaron Barson, the Medical Director of Surface. "What we wanted to do is bring in the best of both worlds."
Shane and Treena Jones, the self-professed spa junkies, focus on the spa and salon side of the house where they have spent the last four years building Brickhouse Retreat as the premier cosmetic destination in the South end of the Salt Lake Valley. Inside Brickhouse, Surface Medical Spas physicians and staff perform the latest medical procedures, from Botox injections to Liposolve mesotherapy and other cosmetic technology treatments.
Shane Jones confesses to feeling apprehensive about bringing a high-end medical spa inside his existing business. Nonetheless, Shane says, "I've been amazed" at the response. “Before we found Surface we had teamed with a less professional medical team that left us unimpressed. Surface has built their location at Brickhouse with the same medical staff and team that have made them so successful in Park City and Layton. Our staff and clients are hugely excited to have Surface here.”
Some clients come to melt off stress, while others are looking for the fountain of youth at a time when baby boomers are fueling a plastic surgery rush nationally. At Brickhouse Retreat they are greeted with a spa menu that includes massage, anti-aging facials, hair and nails, cosmetic lasers and IPLs and Surface's aesthetic medical procedures. Demand for the new medical technologies has been high with Brickhouse clients signing up for the free educational seminars Surface hosts each month. "Our clientele are people who care about themselves and want to look and feel their best," says Shane.
Just call it “a marriage of science and beauty. The spa’s focus is on relaxing and pampering, Surface’s emphasis is on getting results,” says Dr. Barson. “We provide the full spectrum of esthetic medical procedures.” The medical spa’s clientele is composed of anyone interested in anti-aging, usually falling between the ages of 30 and 60.
Set for Success
The 3,500-square-foot spa has eight multi-purpose rooms, which are used for Botox, microdermabrasion, peels, and facials. There is also an adjoining 24 chair full-service salon that offers treatments from Bumble& Bumble and Kerastase. Surface Brickhouse utilizes up to three physicians, nine Master Aestheticians, three massage therapists, and several people working in the concierge and check-out areas. “The staff is so educated about all procedures that a massage can be an introduction to other treatments,” Shane says.
Getting the Look
“Most clients come in and say, ‘I need help with this’ and want to know what tools we have available,” says Dr Barson. “We offer spa or medical treatments to help them get the look they want.” The most popular medical services include laser treatments, filler injections, and Liposolve micro-injections, a physician administered treatment that dissolves unwanted fat anywhere in the body and has become a real alternative to liposuction.
Looking Ahead
Since its inception, Surface has grown to become Utah’s largest cosmetic medical spas and regularly train other physicians and medical staffs in the newest technologies. Surface is currently working on opening medical spas in Brazil as well as expanding to other areas of the U.S. Dr. Barson says they are bursting at the seams and need more space to accommodate the demands, but he believes in slow growth. “I don’t want to sacrifice customer service and the personal touch.”
