The 2005 AVP Nissan Championship Series will be televised LIVE on NBC this summer. The Championship Series consists of 5 events with $1,375,000 up for grabs. Log on to http://avp.com for more information.All ten final’s matches from the Championship Series will be televised LIVE on NBC. The opening event will take place in Cincinnati with LIVE coverage July 2nd and 3rd on NBC at 4:30pm EST.
The Championship Season continues:
• Hermosa Beach Open - July 23 and 24 at 4:30pm EST.
• Huntington Beach Open - August 13 and 14 at 4:30pm EST.
• Manhattan Beach Open - August 20 and 21 at 4:30pm EST.
• Chicago Open - September 4th at 2pm EST.
The LIVE on NBC broadcasts will feature Gold Medalists and Olympians at every turn. The Women’s side is highlighted by 2004 Olympic gold medal winners Misty May and Kerri Walsh, and 2004 Olympic bronze medal winners Holly McPeak and Elaine Youngs. On the men’s side, three-time Olympic gold medal winner Karch Kiraly, AVP MVP Mike Lambert and 2000 Olympic gold medalists Eric Fonoimoana and Dain Blanton lead a group of Olympians and NCAA All-Americans.
Golden Girls May and Walsh enter the Nissan Championship Series undefeated in 2005. The duo has not lost a match since the 2004 Chicago Open. May and Walsh have won all of their matches in 2005 and have only dropped two games this season. Their current win streak sits at 39 matches starting with the 2004 Olympics in Athens. May & Walsh hold the record of 89 consecutive wins set during the 2003 and 2004 season. The duo looks to complete a “perfect season,” unprecedented in AVP history.
The AVP Men have seen four winners in five events in 2005. Olympian Stein Metzger & Jake Gibb won in Fort Lauderdale and Tempe, Nick Lucena & Phil Dalhausser won in Austin, Olympians Jeff Nygaard & Dax Holdren won in Santa Barbara, and Matt Fuerbringer & Casey Jennings won in San Diego.
