About Eat Pray Love: At 30, Elizabeth Gilbert had everything a woman was supposed to want — a husband, a house in the country, a successful career. But she wasn't happy. She went through a divorce, a crushing depression and more. To recover, Gilbert got rid of her belongings, quit her job, left her loved ones behind and undertook a year-long journey around the world, all alone. Gilbert visited three countries where she could examine one aspect of her own nature, set against the backdrop of a culture that has traditionally done that one thing very well. In Italy, she studied the art of pleasure. India was for the art of devotion. Finally, in Indonesia, she sought her ultimate goal: balance.
Elizabeth Gilbert is the author of a story collection, Pilgrims (a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award), a novel, Stern Men, and, most recently, The Last American Man (a finalist for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award). For the last five years she has worked as a journalist at GQ, where her feature writing earned her three National Magazine Award nominations. She lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
