CHICAGO (June 2005)—Shaw’s Crab House (21 E. Hubbard St., Chicago; and 1900 E. Higgins Road in Schaumburg, Ill.) hosts its 9th Annual Lobster Festival, which will be held during the months of June and July, 2005.
Shaw’s Crab House offers a traditional East Coast-style “Lobster Boil,” a prix-fixe menu which includes a one-pound boiled whole Maine Lobster; Red Potatoes; Corn on the Cob; and Coleslaw. The menu is priced at $21.95, plus tax and gratuity.
In addition, Shaw’s will offer a spectacular menu of Maine Lobster specialties throughout June and July, which will be prepared in such ways as steamed, boiled, broiled, baked, grilled, and crab-stuffed. Shaw’s will also offer Maine Lobster with specials such as surf-n-turf, lobster cocktail, lobster maki rolls, lobster salads, lobster club sandwiches, lobster bisque and lobster thermidore, plus more!
The Maine Lobster, found off the coast of Maine, is sweet and succulent. The delicate taste of the meat in the front claws, large tail and many little legs makes the effort it takes to catch, cook and eat a lobster worthwhile. Maine Lobsters are low in fat, calories and cholesterol (lower than skinless white meat of chicken or turkey).
The American Lobster, Homarus Americanus, have 10 legs and two powerful claws – one for crushing and one for ripping or cutting up its food. In their full, living glory, they are a green/brown color with black spots, and turn red only after they are cooked. Lobsters typically take approximately four to seven years to gain just one pound, and as they grow, they molt (shed their shell) repeatedly. With each molt, they increase their fertility – and some older, bigger female lobsters can carry as many as 80,000 eggs.
Shaw’s Main Dining Room offers an à la carte menu serving more than 40 fresh seafood entrees as well as prime beef, chicken and pasta. The restaurant also features a full selection of crabs including Alaskan King Crabs, Stone Crabs, Soft-Shell Crabs and Maryland-Style Crab Cakes. Due to popular demand, Shaw’s Crab House offers an extensive variety of sushi, prepared by Sushi Chef Naoki Nakashima. Shaw’s Oyster Bar features a raw oyster bar of Pacific Northwest and Atlantic Northeast oysters shucked to order and served on the half-shell; also included are soups, salads, shrimp, crab and lobster, and an assortment of sandwiches. Desserts are made in-house daily.
