WaterStone Community Church Announces New Name and Expanded Vision

Denver, CO – October 4, 2007 – WaterStone Community Church (WCC), formerly known as Centennial Community Church (CCC), is pleased to announce a new name, new look and expanded vision. WaterStone Community Church staff members explained the original reason behind the name change was to remove the word “Centennial” which identified the congregation’s original location in Centennial Acres, is no longer relevant. WCC leaders felt that those unfamiliar with the church would automatically assume the church was located southeast in Centennial, Colorado.

“The bottom line is we felt the name was a bit of an obstacle for people knowing about the church,” says Executive Pastor Greg Teal, ‘”We wanted the new name to inspire our church members and surrounding community to consider the name’s deeper meaning.. A water stone is a sharpening stone that transforms, shapes and refines those things that come into contact with it. WaterStone Community Church is a growing movement of transformed people reshaping the culture to reflect God's heart, and the metaphor of the water stone seems to accurately convey that message.”

In addition to the name change, the church is expanding its vision and culture. “We are opening our doors more to the community as a whole,” said Mobilization Pastor Theresa Wisda. “This means we are actively reaching out to the community and are asking our congregation to literally step out of their comfort zones to help people inside and outside of the church.”
