The United Kingdom's Boardman Tasker Charitable Trust announced recently that Forever On The Mountain, by American author James M. Tabor, is one of six finalists for the prestigious Boardman Tasker Prize. The prize was created to honor the memory of Britishers Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker, two of history's greatest mountaineers, who disappeared while attempting a new route on Mt.Everest in 1982.The Boardman Tasker Prize is awarded annually to promote literature by providing an annual award to authors of literary works, the central theme of which is concerned with mountains. The prize winner will be announced on November 16, 2007.

In July of 1967, seven mountaineers disappeared mysteriously near the summit of Mt. McKinley, North America's highest peak. Despite being trapped for 10 days, no attempt was made to rescue them. No official investigation followed the tragedy, which produced controversy that lasted until the present day.
Author James M. Tabor, an experienced mountaineer and former Contributing Editor to Outside magazine, spent nearly three years researching and writing the book. His research included interviews with survivors, scientists, meteorologists, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and more.

Forever On The Mountain—The Truth Behind One Of Mountaineering's Most Mysterious and Controversial Disasters, was published by W.W. Norton in July, 2007. It is also a Barnes & Noble "Discover Great New Writers" Selection for 2007.
