Former Plant City Mayor John Dicks Announces Bid for U.S. Congress

Plant City, Fla. – October 3, 2007 - John Dicks, a former mayor and city commissioner for Plant City, FL announced today that he is running to represent Florida's Ninth Congressional District in the United States Congress. John Dicks is a known leader in his community who shares the values of the ninth district and will work for change in Washington. "Partisan politics and political bickering has become more important in Congress than finding solutions – we need a change. Florida's working families deserve a Congressman who is focused on getting things done for the people he represents," said Dicks. "I can be an effective leader for our district on both sides of the aisle. I will work to find real solutions to the challenges facing the American people."
Dicks served on the city commission for nine years and served three times as Plant City mayor, from 1999-2000 and 2005-07. A fter his final term as city commissioner, Dicks joined the local law firm of Trinkle, Redman, Swanson, Coton, Davis & Smith.
"I share the values of the people in my district — concerns about the security of our families and our nation, an unfailing hope for the future of our country, and a love for the American dream that unite us all as one," Dicks continued. "I look forward to the opportunity to serve the people of the ninth district, my home, during a very important time for the future of our nation."
Dicks and his wife of 29 years, Sharon, reside in Plant City. Their son John, II is attending law school at the University of Florida and their son Jarod is a senior at the U.S. Naval Academy and aspires to be commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation.
