CONSULTUS CARE & NURSING AGENCY LAUNCHES THE FUNDING GUIDE TO LIVE IN NURSING AND LIVE-IN CARE

October 03, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Recent independent research commissioned by Consultus Care and Nursing Agency revealed that the option to stay at home rather than move into residential care was the preferred choice for over 75’s nationwide. The results also clearly showed that people wanted more information on the subject and the launch of the company’s guide to funding for live-in nursing and live-in care is a well-considered response to that need.

In addition, the recent Government initiative regarding the public funding of continuing care, expected to reach a further 8,000 people, clearly does not go far enough with 100,000 people in need still expected to be ineligible for funding. As such, giving people information and access to private funding options could be seen as a necessity. However, despite the less than rosy picture overall, Consultus might be an attractive choice for some, with live-in care being comparable, in terms of cost, to care and nursing homes.

Celia Hoare, Residential Care Manager at Consultus, comments: “When people juxtapose care homes and live-in care they are often inclined to think the latter is significantly more expensive, but this is not necessarily so – in fact with prices starting from only £464 a week for a live-in carer this cost is in many ways comparable to that of some nursing or care homes. In addition, when two people in a household need care the price of having a live-in helper is even more affordable. If a husband and wife choose the nursing or care home option, the combined fees would be more expensive than paying for a live-in carer to help them both at home.”

Some of the financial options laid out in the guide i.e. equity release, actually have knock on benefits for the children of the elderly in terms of inheritance tax alleviation, and elderly parents looking to leave their children in the best possible position when the time comes often brings peace of mind. The booklet also provides detailed knowledge on how to obtain public government funding, which some people are often unaware of when they first come to inquire about live-in care and nursing. In that sense, the booklet is not merely a guide, but a valuable tool that informs people of their rights ensuring they are able to make the right and best choice for themselves and their families.

While a cost comparison can be made in financial terms between the various options, what is perhaps more important is the level and quality that one to one live in care and nursing provides for the elderly client.

Celia Hoare, comments: “Being able to stay in your own home in familiar surroundings is obviously a major advantage of live-in care and nursing however, the psychological benefits are many with carers and clients building meaningful relationships, some often continuing once the carer has moved on. These close relationships or indeed friendships also lead to more fulfilled lives and a knowledge of the client’s needs and desires which might not be as readily apparent when the client is one of many in a nursing or care home environment. On that basis there is simply no comparison.”

Consultus performs thorough multi-level pre-vetting procedures on all candidates before carers are allowed to work with Consultus’ clients. Nurses are also required to have three years of experience in an appropriate field of nursing before applying to work for the company – again peace of mind for the elderly and their families.
