Randy Pausch and his Last Lecture have focussed attention on a much more positive American value: family and family legacies. Personal history is important, but hard to find time to organize and capture. An ingenious company has created a process for doing so and provides very affordable customized interviews for everyday people. In light of the recent attention to Randy Pausch and his heart-warming “Last Lecture,” many have asked: “What about the everyday person’s story?” Many people are beginning to realize that missing the opportunity to capture a loved one’s story can make their loss even more difficult, especially as children and grandchildren start asking questions about the person and their life experiences that can’t be answered. But who has time to organize, draft or edit an entire life story, and how would you go about it anyway?
Realizing that everyone will struggle with the same issue in one form or another, an ingenious company was started last year with a very important goal in mind: to capture your life story. The company is called "Reel Interviews" and uses the trademark "Capturing the Real You!"
What makes them so unique is that they have developed a process to affordably create custom interviews, capture them on video, edit them and put them on DVD for friends and family to enjoy and cherish. The response has been overwhelming, and much like the response to Randy's lecture, they have found that people are seeking a closer connection to one another and that it is an incredibly important thing to do for yourself and for other people.
They have a proprietary process for quickly collecting information about the interviewee (it only takes the interviewee about 15 minutes to fill out a special questionnaire) and for determining the subject matter of interest of the folks that are most likely going to be watching the DVD. In an hour interview, they can capture the essence of a person's story in a way that is easy and fun for the person being interviewed, and interesting for others to watch.
Thanks to their unique process, they can produce a quality finished product for as low as $395. The process is so unique and efficient that there is a patent pending.
Their first location is open in Birmingham, MI, and they will be opening many others throughout the country. For an additional charge, they often travel to conduct remote interviews as well.
People are beginning to appreciate the importance of sharing their life story, and Reel Interviews has received a lot interest. They’ve been a guest on the Mitch Albom Show as well as a featured guest on other radio shows.
Whether someone uses Reel Interviews to capture their story or figures out another way to capture their most precious memories, life lessons, values and stories, preserving the story of someone you care about so it can be enjoyed and cherished for years to come is one the best lessons for all of us. And with the holidays fast approaching, it’s hard to imagine a better gift than a cherished family legacy.
