The franchise industry is seeking over 175,000 people in the UK to become self-employed business owners, offering the full training and support of a ‘Franchisor’ company. This statistic is announced in the ‘FDS UK Franchise Industry Report’, published on Monday (01/10/07) by Franchise Development Services in association with TheUKFranchiseDirectory.net to coincide with the start of National Franchise Week. The report also reveals that there are now over 1,000 companies offering franchises in the UK, which have already established over 51,000 company-owned and over 83,000 Franchisee-owned retail outlets, restaurants and offices around the country.
FDS Chairman Roy Seaman CFE comments, “This represents a huge variety of retail, food and beverage, and business services opportunities for people with no business background to become their own boss. However, investors are advised to be extremely careful before buying into a Franchise, since only around 300 of these Franchisors are members of the British Franchise Association (bfa).
“This self-policing body is the prospective Franchise investor’s best possible guide to credibility, and we encourage every Franchisor to sign up to the bfa’s membership requirements. The most recent survey of bfa members indicated their Franchisees achieving a success rate of over 90 percent. By comparison, we believe that more than 80 percent of Franchisees investing in a non-member Franchise are likely to fail to reach profitability within a three year period.”
“The forthcoming National Franchise Week is an ideal time to start learning about the opportunities available to start your own business. The perfect starting point is to obtain a copy of The Franchise Magazine (available in WHSmith, Borders, or online at TheFranchiseMagazine.net), and to visit TheUKFranchiseDirectory.net to view details of Franchisors currently seeking Franchisees in the UK.”
FDS is the publisher of The Franchise Magazine, the October/November edition of which is available in newsagents on Saturday (28/09/07) and features details of over 100 genuine business format Franchises, including McDonalds, Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Clubs, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, Prontaprint, Cadbury’s Snack in the Box, Signs Express, Molly Maid, Jani-King, Coffee Republic and Wok2Go, plus new launches such as private health Franchise Samedaydoctor.
