Dallas—Sep 30—Howard University graduate, film/television and stage actress Naima Imani Lett will bring an ancient message of hope and inspiration to contemporary times in her return to the Washington, D.C. area October 13 at 7:30 pm, to perform as the opening act for world-renowned jazz saxophonist, Kirk Whalum, at the Reid Temple AME Church in Glenn Dale, Md, where Whalum will be recording before a live audience “The Gospel According To Jazz Part III.”“This will be an evening when lovers of live theatre and jazz will experience an expression of spiritual renewal,” says Lett, who after graduating from Howard University found success as a professional actress appearing on Lifetime’s original series “Inspector Mom” and “Prison Break” on Fox Network. “I will be performing my original Creation dramatic sequence in which I dance the events of the Creation and perform monologues about Eve and Mary. Mary’s drama concludes with a dance interpretation of the powerful and inspiring song “Mary Did You Know”.
Lett’s dramas, which are drawn from her original nationally acclaimed one-woman play Shattered Silhouettes, demonstrate how today’s men and women struggle with the very same challenges that were faced in ancient times. Shattered Silhouettes is an inspirational drama that breathes life into five women from the Bible. Leah can’t figure out why her husband doesn’t love her. Tamar, King David’s daughter, is violated by her half-brother and agonizes as the royal family covers it up. Jezebel’s desire for power led to her own destruction. Eve struggles with forbidden fruit. And Mary wrestles over how to tell her fiancé that she is pregnant … by someone else.
Since early childhood, Lett has captivated audiences with her talents and acting abilities. Her aspirations of becoming an actress led her to Howard University’s Theatre Department in Washington, D.C. where she graduated summa cum laude, earning a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Acting. Upon graduation, Lett further pursued her acting career at the Tony-award winning Crossroads Theatre and studied classical theater with the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England. She has since written and performed several solo dramas in theaters, universities and conferences nationwide. Lett recently became the first graduate with a Masters in Media and Communications from Dallas Theological Seminary.
Lett’s career has taken off with appearances on Lifetime’s original series “Inspector Mom” and Fox Network’s “Prison Break.” Lett’s recurring role of Jackie Ormond in Lifetime’s original series “Inspector Mom” is back. Lett’s Jackie can now be seen causing trouble for her neighborhood opposite Danica McKellar from “The Wonder Years” fame. The latest episode ‘Rake Your Thieves’ which reveals Jackie’s secret has recently been released and can be seen on Lifetime Movie Network’s website, http://inspectormom.lmn.tv/. Lett, represented by the acclaimed Horne Agency, was also featured in the “Prison Break” episode The Wash directed by Bobby Roth in which she portrays the mysterious receptionist who double-crosses the lead actors Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Lett recently completed filming the lead role in the BBC crime thriller “Wire in the Blood” episode ‘Prayer of the Bone’ opposite award-winning actor Robson Green, where she plays the role of attorney Anita Addison, who tries to save the life of her client while fighting against the injustices that sometimes occur in small southern towns, similar to what recently happened with the Jena Six in Louisiana.
