Rochester Security Summit Highlights National Cyber Security Awareness Month

The Rochester Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) www.rochestersecurity.org in association with the University of Rochester www.rochester.edu/ITS/security/ will promote National Cyber Security Awareness Month by presenting the 2007 Rochester Security Summit October 3-4, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Rochester. Admission is $100.
Educational seminars, held from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., will address everyday concerns and relevant threats for business, technical, and academic professionals, as well as all concerned computer users. Business and Technical class tracks will include information on industry best practice, forensic investigation, risk management, and malware attack demonstrations.
Dr. Eugene Schultz, Chief Technology Officer of High Tower Software, will deliver the keynote address, “Evolution of Threats”, which will explore how security-related threats have substantially changed, and the resulting security technology that has emerged to address the new threat and risk landscape.
A Chief Information Officer panel Oct. 4 will feature CIO panel members David Lewis, Vice Provost and CIO of the University of Rochester, Lionel Bittner; CIO for the City of Rochester, and Ford Greene, CIO for the Rochester City Schools. NYS Assemblyman David Koon (D/I-Perinton) will welcome participants that day.
Other notable local speakers include Rochester Institute of Technology Professor Sam McQuade, RIT Associate Director of Customer Support Services Dave Pecora, Monroe County District Attorney Mike Green, and Rohyt Belani of the Intrepidus Group.
Rodney J. Petersen, EDUCAUSE Government Relations Officer and Security Task Coordinator, will close the event with his presentation, “Privacy and Security: An Update from Washington”, on cyber security and privacy developments in Congress and initiatives of executive branch agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
