September 2007 – North West architectural practice Allison Pike has completed the £1.8m extension and interior design of the Best Western Rossett Hall Hotel, Wrexham, creating a luxury new bedroom wing and refurbishment of the existing hotel faclities.

The award-winning architectural practice designed the 800m2 extension to be sensitive to the original Grade II listed Georgian Hall that forms the main hotel building, while also reflecting the style and scale of the existing extension, which was added in the 1990s. The layout of the extension was also created to maximise the space available, with the site constrained by a neighbouring upmarket housing development.

Throughout the hotel Allison Pike has combined traditional materials with contemporary Georgian design, to provide additional four-star facilities for weddings and the corporate market, establishing the hotel as a major venue in the region.

Elegance is the key throughout the 20-bedroom extension, with local materials such as Welsh slate used to enhance the existing reception area, and a slate, duck egg green and neutral colour theme running across the bedroom interiors.

Stylish furniture combines dark cherry wood wardrobes and chests, with ‘tub’ chairs covered in duck egg and slate blue fabric, and linen curtains in monochrome floral designs with a rich slate blue border – all adding to the Georgian inspired sophistication.

Darryl Shaw, Managing Director of Rossett Hall, commented: “The new wing will provide guests with luxury style combined with a taste of traditional Wales. It was very important to us to maintain the Welsh spirit and history of the building throughout the extension, and Allison Pike have been very successful in achieving this. We hope that visitors old and new will find that it offers a very special experience.”

Lighting is used to maximum effect throughout the new wing, with classical designs including a statement feature lamp on the desk in each room. Bespoke carpets add to the quality of the new wing, with colours and floral designs selected to add individuality to the extension, while reflecting the existing hotel.

The bathrooms also bring luxurious style, with a porcelain limestone finish to the walls and floor together with a mosaic background mirror surround. The sanitary ware is in classic white, with chrome taps and cherry wood cabinets to co-ordinate with the bedroom furniture.

Greg Pike, Director of Allison Pike Architects and Designers commented: “Rossett Hall is a fine example of Georgian architecture with elegant rooms and well-designed feature bedrooms. It was important to reflect this throughout the new wing, while introducing bespoke elements where possible to give the extension some individuality.

“The real challenge in terms of the building was accommodating the 20 bedrooms on a site constrained in size. By being creative in our approach, the result is a new contemporary wing that sits comfortably with the existing building, while providing the hotel with a fresh appeal.”

In addition to the architecture and interior design, the car parking and external landscaping have also been redesigned to accommodate the additional guests generated by the new wing, while enhancing the appeal as a wedding venue. A new cast iron, classical columned gazebo has also been integrated into the grounds, creating a focal point for wedding ceremonies.
