The Well-Tempered Clavier, a tempestuous and passionate novel by successful journalist William Coles, is to be published by Legend Press on 27th October, and will be the next title in its rapidly growing and highly acclaimed novel list. Legend Press releases the AI and cover image for The Well-Tempered Clavier this week, revealing that the novel, which is set at Eton College against the backdrop of the Falklands War, is almost undoubtedly the first Eton love story ever to have been published.
Coles tells the story of a torrid, intensely-emotional love affair which develops between schoolboy Kim and his 23-year-old female piano teacher, the beguiling but pained India. 25-years later, Kim looks back on the life-changing experience and sees how enemies, strict constraints and ultimately his own jealousy destroyed the haven that had been created. On finally uncovering the reason for India’s secret hurt, the novel reaches a destructive finale that still haunts Kim all these years later, as does the music that she taught him to love, Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier.
William Coles has been a journalist for 18 years and has worked for a wide range of national publications including The Sun (from both the UK and New York), The Scotsman, The Mail, The Express, The Express on Sunday, and the Wall Street Journal. Even though he’s now written his first novel and plans to write many more, he still loves the tension and deadlines of journalism and also trains new tabloid journalists.
