Leading Figure in “Black Hawk Down” Saga to Speak in Raleigh

(Raleigh, NC) September 22, 2007—Danny McKnight, Colonel USA (Ret.), the man who led the rescue convoy depicted in the 2001 film “Black Hawk Down,” will be in Raleigh Friday, September 21. Col McKnight will be speaking to the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Breakfast Club of the Triangle (BCA-Triangle) at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh. After a UH-60 Black Hawk providing air support was shot down by Somali insurgents in October 1993, McKnight's convoy made several attempts to reach the crash site and evacuate the casualties and soldiers who had moved to secure the crash site on foot. Col. McKnight was wounded in the first rescue attempt, and despite his wounds led a second, successful rescue effort.
Colonel McKnight’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (2 awards), the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Ranger Tab, the Master Parachutist Badge with Combat Star, and the Pathfinder Badge. After completing 28 and one-half years of service to our country, Colonel McKnight returned to his hometown in Florida.
