PHARMACORE TAPS SWIERENGA TO DESIGN AND RUN GMP LAB

PharmaCore, Inc. announced that Brian Swierenga has joined the company as vice president of GMP manufacturing. Previously, Swierenga served as the director of API manufacturing for the Ann Arbor facility of Pfizer, Inc. His responsibilities at PharmaCore will include overseeing the completion of a 17,000 square foot addition to the current laboratory. Upon completion of the laboratory, Swierenga is slated to manage the staff and operations of all GMP manufacturing at PharmaCore headquarters. The new laboratory will significantly increase PharmaCore’s reaction capabilities.“Hiring someone with Brian’s experience and qualifications is a huge asset for us,” Maddox said. “He designed and managed the construction of the Kilo lab at the Pfizer Ann Arbor location so his experience is a perfect fit for PharmaCore.”
Swierenga also served as the operations director for the Parke-Davis pilot plant facility in Holland, MI. He managed the process engineering lab, physical property lab, process safety lab and pilot plant operations. Prior to Parke-Davis, he was a group leader at BASF Inmont.
Swierenga holds U.S. Patent #4,940,822 for Continuous Reactor Design for alkylation reaction. He has spoken in chemistry lecture series’ at Hope College and Calvin College and is an annual lecturer on chemical development for the University of Michigan’s Pharmaceutical Engineering MSE program.
(He received a bachelor of science in chemistry from Calvin College and a bachelor of science in
chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the American
Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE) and the Calvin College Engineering Industry Advisory Council. In 2002, he facilitated the session “Clinical Supplies—Drug Substance Manufacturing” at the 12th Annual GMP Roundtable hosted by Eli Lilly. Swierenga was also the session chair for the Pilot Plants Division at the 1997 AIChE Spring National Meeting in Houston, TX.
