Atlanta, GA — Virgin Islands native Benny Demus has become known to the world as DJ Benny D, Akon’s official DJ and music director, famous for his Mohawk and the kilt he wears on stage and infamous for dancing with Tara Reid during a performance at this year’s Sundance Film festival. His vibrant personality and incomparable energy level on stage has earned him the designation of “The World’s Most Entertaining DJ”… but for Benny D that title barely scratches the surface of his talents.

Benny D has produced tracks for Akon on 2 albums and for several other artists with major label deals including Kardinal Offishall, Rock City, Tabi Bonney, Ray Lavender, Bobby Creekwater and Sunny Valentine.

A savvy businessman as well as a talented artist, Benny D was instrumental in relaunching his former group 2EKWHIP under their new name “Rock City”, a name that pays homage to their home of St. Thomas, and was responsible for landing them a deal with Konvict Muzik, the record label owned and founded by Akon.

Benny D is passionate about helping others and has devoted his efforts to Akon’s foundation Konfidence, which helps to build and rebuild schools and hospitals throughout Africa. Later in the week, Benny D will be announcing his support for a foundation towards educational initiatives.

Benny D has toured the world both on his own and as Akon’s DJ and music director, entertaining crowds as large as 200,000 in countries such as Morocco, Amsterdam, Belgium, The Ivory Coast and Malta. Upcoming tour dates for Benny D with Akon include a cross Canada tour with Rhianna from September 15 – 30th, MTV Russia Awards on October 4th, BET Hip Hop Awards on October 12th, MTV European Music Awards in Germany on November 1st, and Latin Grammy’s in Las Vegas on November 8th.
