Thompson and Edwards Make Moves in Wonkosphere

Chandler, AZ (PRLEAP) September 19, 2007 — Wonkosphere.com, a new web service which tracks and analyzes the political blogosphere, announced today that former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson led all Republican candidates last week with 26% buzz share amongst conservative bloggers. On the liberal side, New York Senator Hillary Clinton, former South Carolina Senator John Edwards, and Illinois Senator Barack Obama were in a virtual tie for first place at 25%. The results for Thompson and Edwards represent significant increases in attention compared to the last week and month.
Among conservative bloggers, Texas Representative Ron Paul was second at 21%, followed closely by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani at 20%. Filling out the pack among conservative bloggers were Mitt Romney (14%), John McCain (9%), Mike Huckabee (7%), John McCain (9%), Duncan Hunter (2%), Tom Tancredo (1%), and Sam Brownback (1%). Amongst liberal bloggers, Senator Joe Biden was fourth at 12%, followed by Chris Dodd (5%), Bill Richardson (3%), Dennis Kucinich (1%), and Mike Gravel (1%).

The numbers were compiled by Wonkosphere.com, a new web site which provides timely and unbiased tracking and analysis of over 1,100 political blogs using objective, computerized, natural language processing. Buzz share is calculated by examining the linguistic prominence of each candidate in blog coverage for a given period, and expressing his or her share of the total as a percentage. Percentages are reported for the dates of September 8-14, 2007.
