EconoMonkey brings economics to the rest of us

Today marks the official launch of EconoMonkey.com, a new website which aims to demystify the world of economics and high finance for non-experts. A growing number of people in the UK are taking an interest in the economy and how it affects their personal finances. EconoMonkey offers these 'armchair economists' news and features written in simple non-patronising language, cutting through the jargon to explain what the major economics stories of the day mean for them. EconoMonkey Publisher, Lance Concannon, said: “We launched EconoMonkey to cater for the increasing number of ordinary people who want to know how the economy really works and what impact it has on their own lives. People are no longer content to simply sit back and leave economics to the grey-suited city executives. They want to know about the things that affect their savings, pensions and investments - how interest rate decisions are made, why the stock market can suddenly dive, what really influences house prices and what causes things like the current sub-prime credit crisis.”
EconoMonkey readers can take advantage of compelling Web 2.0 features, such as the ability to discuss stories with other users, rate each other's comments, post their own articles and collectively decide which articles get published on the site's main page by voting for their favourites. “Money is a subject that people get very passionate about. They love to debate, discuss and share their own knowledge about financial matters, EconoMonkey provides them with a great place to do that.” said Concannon.
EconoMonkey is a privately funded venture which is owned and operated by a group of professional journalists and technical specialists.
