Cryogenics in Canada: Cryotron Corporation
September 11, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
After years of personal interest and study in the field of cryogenics, business owner and entrepreneur Darcy Holts decided to give cryogenics a hands on try by purchasing a cryogenic processor. Instead, he was so impressed he ended up purchasing the entire company, and now owns and successfully operates Cryotron Corporation (formerly known as Cryotron Canada Ltd) along with co-owners and business partners Glenn Johnston and Olga Skoropadska.Cryogenics is a branch of physics that combines science and engineering to study very low temperature and its applied behavior on various materials. Using the company's Vari-Cold Cryogenic Process, Cryotron focuses the majority of their product line and services on the cryogenic treatment of industrial tool steels. These tools (such as drill bits) exhibit a pronounced resistance to wear, therefore extending the life of the tool and creating significant savings during production.
Cryogenics is not a new field, but more a relatively unexplored science of cold tempering metals and other materials; so unexplored is this extreme cold science that it is sometimes confused with cryonics (cryopreservation). Cryotron is making an effort to educate the public about a) how cryogenics can help benefit society and b) the differences between its counterparts, such as Cryobiology and Cryonics. Mr. Holts states, "Everyone can benefit from a stronger public understanding and acceptance of what is proving to be a promising new technology."
