Primitive Radio Gods Release a Darkly Beautiful New Album: "Still Electric"

We all remember the song, "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand" from the summer of '96, right? "Phone Booth" was one of those rare songs that just about everyone loved the first time they heard it on the radio. How about the air-traffic controller who mailed out his forgotten, old demo tape and scored and a #1 hit song, a gold record with Columbia/Sony, and a few bars of his song behind Jim Carrey in The Cable Guy. It was a great story that made you believe in dreams. The down-beat, moody video shot around Heathrow airport captured hearts for weeks on-end that summer as well.

When the Primitive Radio Gods returned from touring to support "Rocket" they began work on a much more eclectic album which finally surfaced as their 2001 release, "White Hot Peach". Critically acclaimed, the album started to build PRG’s reputation as a listener’s band, as opposed to "the next big thing".

2005 has "Still Electric" proving that this is "a band thing" more so than ever with seemingly live tracks played out in the studio and then over-dubbed with layers. PRG is a trio these days with Chris O’Connor on bass and vocals, Tim Lauterio on drums, and Luke McAuliffe on guitar and vocals.

We could tag them as a "one-hit wonder", or not. Either way, working in their own studios and largely self-distributing their music, this is a band that keeps producing oddly-beautiful, finely-crafted albums.
