The consequences of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection form the central premise of debut author Alison Miller’s novel, One Night in Boston, newly released in e-book format by Samhain Publishing. Writing under the pen name Allie Boniface, Miller began developing the idea of a character who faces an HPV-positive diagnosis almost three years ago. While One Night In Boston is ultimately a love story, “One of the most important elements of the story is the fact that its heroine is diagnosed with HPV at nineteen years old.” Miller explains, “The entire storyline stems from the physical and emotional implications that Maggie’s diagnosis has on her life.”
A survivor of HPV herself, Miller felt it was crucial to tell the story of someone who faces the life-changing consequences of HPV infection. “While I was lucky enough to receive outstanding early treatment, many young women are not as fortunate. I wanted to raise awareness about the prevalence of this sexually transmitted disease in a story that also has a happy ending.”
Miller deliberately chose to publish her novel in both electronic and print formats. As a member of EPIC (Electronically Published Internet Connection), she embraces the ease and growing accessibility of e-books. “While I will always appreciate being able to stick a paperback in my bag and carry it down to the beach, e-books are becoming an attractive alternative. The price of e-books is comparable to print copies, as well. If you haven’t taken a chance on e-books before, now is the perfect time to start, in my opinion.”
Miller is a native of the northeast United States and currently lives with her husband in Orange County, New York, where she is an award-winning English and Education teacher.
One Night In Boston is currently available in e-book format (ISBN# 1-59998-536-5) and may be purchased at www.mybookstoreandmore.com. It will also be released in print in May 2008.
