San Francisco, CA - Melissa Capria, SF climate action coordinator, will discuss climate change in the Bay Area including an update on Climate Action Plan. The public will have unprecedented access to ask questions and learn about local climate change. The event is sponsored by Down to a Science and takes places on Monday 9/24, 7-9 PM at 330 Ritch.

San Francisco has stepped up to address climate change in many ways ranging from:
-Reducing total GHG 20% below 1990 levels by 2012
-Developing ordinances dictating energy efficiency in homes
-Committing to a goal of zero waste
-Promoting transportation alternatives
-Exploring a wide variety of renewable energy possibilities

Melissa Capria, the first climate action coordinator for the city and county of San Francisco, will talk about the city’s aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target and the role that individuals play in addressing climate change. “Government and business need to act aggressively to slow climate change but equally important to tackling the problem is a culture change at the individual level,” says Capria, who prior to joining the Dept. of Environment worked for five years on the Cities for Climate Protection campaign, an international effort focused on cities addressing climate change. Ms. Capria also recently participated in "The Climate Project", Al Gore's project to train individuals to present his "An Inconvenient Truth" slideshow.

The event is sponsored by Down to a Science, a science café focused on promoting a civic discourse from the point of view of science.
