Xlibris Children’s Book Focuses on Overcoming Challenges

Those familiar with the classic American lore that tells about Casey at the Bat and his heartbreaking non-homerun may feel a bit of déjà vu when they encounter the Xlibris book, Katie at the Bat.

However, instead of disappointment, readers will be delighted at this more optimistic take penned by Lisa Hoffstein and beautifully illustrated by talented young artists from several Philadelphia schools.

Through Katie at the Bat, Hoffstein brings to the fore a female baseball player who is called to the plate for the hit that will decide the fate of the entire game. She emphasized on creating a female lead character instead of a male lead after noticing that almost all baseball picture books she encountered had heroes – not heroines.

Apart from bringing a female touch to the predominantly-male world of baseball, Katie at the Bat also promises to instill the values of believing in oneself so that anything can be possible. In fact, this is also the same tenet echoed by Hoffstein in her group, The Katie at the Bat Team – A Non Profit Helping Kids Hit Home Runs in Life.

The Katie At The Bat Team is dedicated to improving the lives of inner-city youth through enrichment opportunities and educational programs in athletics, literacy, nutrition and health, and the arts. Consistent with its name, The Katie At The Bat Team, in its start-up phase, focuses on girls and sports in Philadelphia. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this book goes to the said organization.
Katie at the Bat is a story about facing up to challenges, no matter how difficult they are. The moral is clear and straight forward - what matters is believing in yourself and then anything is possible. A motto that people from all walks of life can take to heart.

Author
Living in a household with children consisting of two boys and a girl, Lisa Hoffstein has been exposed to the game of baseball – thanks to her boys to whom she read baseball picture books. These books gave her the impetus to start writing about the game itself with a heroine to spice the story up.

Hoffstein brings what she has written into reality, providing guidance and inspiration to children and teenagers with The Katie at the Bat Team – A Non Profit Helping Kids Hit Home Runs in Life. She is president and founder of the said organization. To further achieve the goals of her group, Hoffstein is donating a percentage of the sales of her book to the said group.
