Soekershof goes 'lens'

Visitors of this 'lens' are offered one Internet page with all details about Soekershof and links to other relevant Internet sites. In May of this year Soekershof launched a few blogsites; one with information about the latest developments in and around Soekershof (http://soekershofwalkabout.blogspot.com) and one as service tool for the own nursery customers (http://soekershof.wordpress.com). Soekershof Walkabout is the first botanical garden/nursery in South Africa with this service.

Soekershof Walkabout is the only non-subsidised Botanical Garden. It houses the world's largest hedge-maze and a unique world class garden with more than 2400 different succulent including cacti from all over the world under the open sky instead of under a roof or under shade-cloth.

Recent research has shown that approx. 70 percent of the visitors of the Botanical Gardens of the National Botanical Institute in South Africa are merely interested in the 'banter' around it such as restaurants, coffee corners and curio shops (Made in China) and not in the plant collection. These money generating add ons are also the reason that the Karoo Botanical Garden in Worcester was granted with a subsidy of 3.2 million Rand (400,000 USD) to landscape a parking spot at the entrance with next to it a restaurant.
