General Graphics (GGE), San Francisco, was selected for Inc.’s first-ever Inc. list of the 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the country, announced August 23, 2007 and representing the enterprises that form the backbone of the U.S. economy. “The Inc. 5,000 provides the most comprehensive look ever at the most important part of the economy—the entrepreneurial part,” said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The expansion of the list has allowed us to tell the stories of larger companies, older companies, and a wealth of companies in industries like Manufacturing and Construction that are underreported in the business media.”
GGE, based in San Francisco and founded in 1962, reported revenue growth of 99.0% over the period monitored for the project, 2003-2006. The company started as a photo processing shop and counted legendary photographers Ansel Adams and Imogen Cunningham among its early customers. Over the years GGE’s reputation grew within the creative communities in the Bay Area, adding trade shows and museums to its offerings. In addition, the GGE is expanding its ability to help clients exhibit internationally, and principal John Moyes sits on the executive board of the Octanorm Service Partnership International (OSPI), a global partnership that ensures consistency for exhibiting companies throughout the world.

In June 2004, former GGE owner Richard Osicka sold his interest in the company to his three minority shareholders at the time, John Moyes, Bill Nieser and Paul Porcher, who are the current principals. Clients include companies such as Levi Strauss, Intel, Pixar, Palm, and Boudin Bread. “During the post-dotcom period, we survived the financial turmoil that hit our area. We diversified our revenue streams and our customer base. We added a robust B-to-B component to our consumer business and took on more specialty projects,” said CEO Paul Porcher. “Our brand is deeply connected to the Bay Area, and we are able to provide a high level of service and maintain our reputation of being very collaborative with our clients’ other partners.”

GGE is a mid-size, value oriented company employing artisans and craftsmen, as well as designers and project managers. For over 40 years, GGE has served the San Francisco convention, museum, and creative markets with unprecedented attention to detail and to customers’ needs. www.gge.com
