SELF DEFENCE CLASSES FOR KIDS
August 26, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Self defence, not violence, is the keyword in new martial arts classes for kids at Esporta Sheffield. Under the guidance of veteran trainer Steve Ainsclough, the health club is set to launch a brand new programme in Jui Jitsu for children from September. The class aims to help boys and girls aged eight to 11 learn how to protect themselves, and will run on Saturday mornings at Esporta Sheffield.
The classes will coach the youngsters in discipline and coordination as well as self defence in an enjoyable way. “It is essentially a fun exercise. There will be different types of games, and although this is not something you can compete in since it’s a self-defence tactic, there will be competitions held amongst the kids. Jui Jitsu will teach them hand and leg coordination and discipline through practice. Jui Jitsu is also a good general exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle ,” explains Steve.
A set syllabus will be followed, which the Chesterfield-based trainer has been using for almost 30 years. The youngsters will progress through the grades, depending on their skill. “Unlike karate, Jui Jitsu is not about fighting. There is no hitting, punching or kicking. It’s more about learning to protect yourself. It’s important for the children to be aware, to avoid problem situations. But if they do get into trouble, they should know how to look after themselves, so that they can wriggle their way out of it, escape and run,” adds Steve.
His son and daughter will also be joining in the classes, although they have been training in Jui Jitsu from a young age, smiles the father of two. Steve, who has taught the martial arts form in the UK and Australia, will continue teaching in other centres in Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield, but will concentrate on the classes at the Archer Road club.
