Harbor Technologies Builds Portable, High-Capacity Floating Pump-Out Station for Marinas
August 25, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Brunswick, ME — August 25, 2006 — Harbor Technologies, Inc., a provider of innovative and cost-effective composite solutions to the marine infrastructure market, announces that it has used a grant from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, which administers the Clean Vessel Act, to create a portable, floating marine pump-out station from composite materials. The station is extremely high capacity and costs significantly less than traditional fixed facilities, which will enable more marinas to add what has been a scarce resource for boaters. Harbor Technologies' floating pump-out station offers a number of benefits over traditional fixed marine pump-out facilities:
— The portable pump-out station has a higher capacity than traditional facilities, which means that marinas do not need to have them emptied as frequently. The portable station is built from composite materials that enable a hollow construction that accommodates large holding tanks.
— The portable stations can be placed anywhere in the water, enabling any marina to install one. Traditional, fixed stations required marinas to sacrifice valuable dock space for a pumping station.
— The portable stations cost less to build and operate than traditional, fixed stations.
— The portable stations are built from environmentally friendly composite materials that do not leach chemicals into the water, are extremely durable, and, unlike traditional docks and stations, require no painting/staining/weatherproofing upkeep.
"Boaters are required to empty their holding tanks at a suitable marine pump-out facility, but traditional stations are scarce and expensive for marinas to build and maintain," says Erik Grimnes, Marketing Manager for Harbor Technologies. "Our portable pump-out units enable any marina to add a station and help the environment in two ways — by offering more facilities where boaters can comply with pump-out regulations, and by using a station that is built from environmentally friendly composite materials."
Composite materials eliminate many of the problems associated with traditional marine materials. They are lightweight and very durable and can be customized in a number of ways. Marina operators can apply for a grant from Environmental Protection Agency to install a portable pump-out station online at http://federalasst.fws.gov/cva/cva.html.
