EUNICE COFIE RECEIVES TITLE OF MISS BLACK FLORIDA USA

Tallahassee, FL – Ms. Eunice Cofie has recently been named Miss Black Florida USA. Cofie will vie for the title of Miss Black USA in The Gambia, West Africa in May 2008. Cofie, a native of Tallahassee, FL holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Molecular Biology from the world-renowned institution, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Cofie plans to pursue a career in medicine and business. As Miss Black Florida, Cofie will spend her reign promoting her platform, “Preventing Childhood Obesity and Diabetes through Education and Life Transforming Habits. Cofie is definitely not novice to this cause. She is currently working on the childhood obesity and diabetes pilot study, Project H.E.A.L.T.H. under Dr. Joseph Webster of the Institute for African American Health. “I am blessed to have this opportunity to promote my platform and represent Florida in the national pageant in The Gambia” says Cofie. This isn’t Cofie’s first time in Africa. In fact, as an undergraduate student, Cofie spent her summer breaks in Ghana, West Africa implementing a HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention program in a village community with the Student National Medical Association. There, Cofie spent her time providing medical services in the local hospital and teaching community members about HIV/AIDS.
The Miss Black USA Pageant and Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization which develops and promotes national leadership among women in the African-American community. The annual competition provides scholarship opportunities that allow state delegates to pursue and achieve their educational, career, and personal goals. The organization develops women who are strong, empowered, and educated and who serve as positive role models to other women of color.
