LOS ANGELES, CA–Music Plus TV (MPTV) is reaching out to the independent film community with its first annual “Call for Content” competition. The contest will accept film submissions under 20 minutes in three categories: short films, animations and documentaries. All submissions with a strong music-related subject matter or theme will be eligible to be considered for an additional honor. MPTV will launch its live internet TV station on June 15th, with a cable network to follow in January of 2006. Although the primary goal of the studio is to promote independent and unsigned musicians, executives recognize the strong presence of talented filmmakers in the indie community as well.
“Too many great artists out there aren’t getting the exposure and the recognition they deserve,” said Alex Hunter, MPTV’s Director of Artist/Record Label Promotions. “We felt it was essential to include undiscovered filmmakers in this worldwide spotlight we’re creating.”
As co-founders Marc Cubas and Dennis Tzeng want the overall MPTV experience to be interactive, they plan to include viewers in the judging process of the film competition by airing the top five films in each category and allowing viewers to vote on the winners.
“Music Plus TV will have several innovative ways to attract and retain a loyal fanbase worldwide simply by giving power to the people,” said Cubas. “Our viewers will have the power to submit, interact, promote and support their favorite artists like never before.”
The submission deadline for the film competition is August 1, 2005. For official contest rules, entry forms and submission guidelines, log onto Music Plus TV’s website at www.musicplustv.com .
