The 5th Bi-annual Gathering of the Curtin Clan Association will occur from September 6 to September 9, 2007, in Petersborough, Ontario, Canada. The Clan's mission is to research the history and origins and be a genealogical resource to all those interested in the Irish surname Curtin, which includes variations such as Curtain, Curtan, McCuraane, Curtayne, Curteis, Curten, McCurten, Curteois,Curties, Curtin, MacCurtin, Kyerty, and Courtayne. For Cartan we have McCart, Cart, Cartan, Carten, McCarten, Carton, Carty. All of these could be with the Mac, Mc, or the O' prefix. Countries where this name originated are mostly Ireland, England, Australia, Canada and the US.

Major contributors to the founding of the organization have been Dan Curtin of Los Angeles, CA, USA, the current chief of the Clan and Webmaster, Neal Curtin of Seattle, WA, USA (the original Secretary-Treasurer and Founder), Ted Curtin of NY) Current Vice Chief, Dan Curtin of NY (current Treasurer-Secretary), Barbara Fagoul of Texas, USA (Journal Editor), Ann Emperor of NY (Membership and Gathering organizer) and Margaret Curtain of Gympie, Australia, the Clan Genealogist. Many other Curtins have been involved as well in recent years, carrying the Clan forward. The Clan has over 150 members from five countries.
Petersborough is about 75 miles east of Toronto. Petersborough is the site of the Peter Robinson settlement in the early 1820's. The 2007 gathering will have a unique connection with our last gathering as Mallow Castle in Ireland was the location from where the Curtin families had a letter of recommendation sent to Peter Robinson requesting passage to Canada. This Gathering is being organized by Gerard and Andree Curtin of Petersborough, Ontario.

The Holiday Inn, site of the Gathering is at the very location where the Irish Immigrant families of the 1825 Peter Robinson Migration camped in tents while the men went out and built their shanties on their allocated land. This group included two Curtin families of which many of us are descendants.

The Gathering will feature historical talks about Curtin families in Canada, a discussion of DNA connections among Curtins, our bi annual election of officers, a Gathering dance and a lot of entertainment. We also explore Irish culture and music.

The city of Peterborough is situated in the center of one of Canada's premier recreational regions; it has a population of 74,000 and is a hub of activity year –round. The Curtins are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new acquaintances.
