WARE MALCOMB ANNOUNCES DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE FOR IKEA LOCATION IN PORTLAND, OREGON

Portland, Oregon – Ware Malcomb is a national design firm offering planning, architecture, interior design, graphic design and site development services to commercial real estate clients throughout the United States and Mexico. The firm’s Northern California office is proud to announce another successfully completed project with the July 25, 2007 opening of IKEA Portland at the eastern end of NE Cascades Drive in Cascade Station, a new mixed use retail and office development, in Portland, Oregon. Ware Malcomb has also designed other IKEA stores, including the West Sacramento and East Palo Alto locations.

Ware Malcomb provided architectural and interior design services for IKEA’s new 280,000 square foot retail store. The construction included conventional foundations, concrete slab on grade, steel columns, steel girders, concrete tilt-up exterior walls, a steel framed second floor with metal deck and concrete fill, metal framed roof structure, on grade surface parking for approximately 1,200 automobiles, and five (5) truck dock loading positions with one (1) access and egress grade level ramp.

The building includes a home furnishings showroom with complete room settings, retail marketplace offering thousands of accessory items from lighting to cookware, a self-serve warehouse to enable customers to take their furniture selection home with them, and two restaurant style eating areas. Also included are a Swedish foodmarket, home delivery center, customer service area and administrative office areas. The General Contractor was SD Deacon out of their Portland, Oregon office.
