Mixed-Use Center Invites Community to Celebrate Construction Milestone

CONYERS, GA: At the corner of Parker and Flat Shoals Roads, crews building the Corner Market at Almand Creek will place a steel beam 50 feet in the air and then celebrate. The project's owners and contractors have a short ceremony planned to
mark the "topping out" for the hometown, mixed-use retail, restaurant
and professional center and they've invited the entire Conyers area
to join them.
A topping out ceremony is one of the construction industry's oldest
customs. It celebrates the efforts of the construction team in achieving this milestone, thanks them for the work to date, and wishes them safety for the rest of the job.
When asked how the ceremony for Corner Market at Almand Creek grew from a small gathering with the contractor to a milestone celebration open to the entire community, Keith Gartin, the project's development manager and landscape architect responds: "We have put a lot of time in our plans to create a place the people of Conyers are proud to call their own. We don't want to wait until we 'officially' open our doors in the spring of 2008. We can invite our neighbors to meet us now, even while we are under construction."
Site plans are renderings show an approximately 72,000 sq, foot
marketplace which seems to have evolved over time. Each of the ten building fronts on the almost 7 acre site is being built with unique features from different architectural styles. Balconies, benches, and pocket parks have been planned to offer opportunities to gather and
unwind. Pedestrian connections and sidewalks enable residents of the
neighboring Village apartments and other subdivisions to walk or ride
their bike. For those coming by car, several open parking lots at different levels are complimented with pull-in parking spaces just in front of most tenants.
The pinnacle beam being placed as a part of the topping out ceremony
supports what will become a four-story copper roofed tower. Visible from vistas across Rockdale county's rolling hills, the tower is expected to create a signature element for the growing region on the south side of Interstate 20.
The topping out ceremony starts at 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 15,
2007 and should last no more than 30 minutes.
