Instrumental Guitarist Randy Ellefson Releases New Album

JULY 31, 2007 (GAITHERSBURG, MARYLAND) – It’s been over a decade since the art of lead guitar went the way of the dinosaurs with the arrival of grunge music, sending 80s style guitarists to the [gui]tar pits. But now it seems that everywhere you look, the guitar solo is making a comeback, whether it’s newer metal bands like Dragonforce, perennial stalwarts like Ozzy Osbourne, or even the descendents of that same grunge movement. For some genres, like instrumental guitar, the art never disappeared at all.

Such is the case for instrumental hard rock guitarist Randy Ellefson, whose second album, aptly titled Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid, will be released July 31, 2007. Featuring ten intense, soaring songs with crunchy riffs, big melodies, and over the top solos, the album is shameless in its devotion to all things guitar. Maybe it’s not surprising coming from a guy who assembles his own guitars, holds a Bachelors of Music in classical guitar, and who once lost his playing to tendinitis and struggled for five years to regain it.

“I love playing and composing for the guitar,” says Ellefson. “It’s an awesome instrument.” Peavey, Morley Pedals, and Alvarez Guitars have all picked up on this devotion and awarded him endorsements since the 2004 release of the debut album, The Firebard.

This time around, drummer Jeff Moos (ex-Mercury Rising) and session bassist Dave DeMarco have added to the melodic overdose, with Ellefson handling all the guitars, which were recorded at his home. “These days it’s easy to make good recordings yourself if you know your limits and when to finish up in a professional studio.”

This cost-saving move is common among independent artists and is yet another way in which modern technology allows them to compete with major labels. Online mp3 distribution has allowed Ellefson to reach fans as far away as New Zealand, and sites like YouTube.com let artists perform in front of people who’d otherwise never see them.

“It’s a great time to be an indie artist,” concludes Ellefson.
