Viva The Chef Offers New Cooking Classes

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Viva The Chef® - a combination culinary school for kids and adults, café, gift shop and catering operation located in Vestavia/Cahaba Heights – announces the beginning of its August & Septembers schedule. Starting on August 2nd, Viva The Chef® will offer several one night classes along with a 4 week class for kids ages 5 & Up. Our Adult classes start at 6:00PM each night and last about two hours. Kids classes are on Saturday’s in August and will start at 3:00PM for about two hours.More for Adults
August 2nd - Intro To Gourmet Cooking – Learn some of the basic techniques used in gourmet kitchens. In this class we will start with a Leek & Potato soup and then prepare a homemade chicken picatta dish with wilted spinach on the side.
August 7th - Shellfish – We will work with all types of shellfish in this class. We will prepare Mussels in a Beer Broth, our famous Crab Cakes, learn how to make a compound butter used for steaming, and finish it off with a stuffed shrimp
August 16th – Tailgating, Marinades & More – Football Season is just around the corner, so come and learn with us how to make rubs, marinades & sauces perfect for the grill.
August 21st – Baking, Breads, & Desserts – Come learn the art of baking as we prepare different types of bread, a Meringue Pie and other fun desserts.
August 30th – Seafood Night, Blackened Tilapia– We will make our very version of a spicy Cajun mix and then create a succulent Blackened Tilapia with a Red Onion Salsa. We will also make a roasted red potato salad and deep fried asparagus, spinach, & zucchini
September 6th – Wild Game, Venison - With hunting season right around the corner, we though we would have a class and show you a few different applications for Venison. We will slow roast some with a venison chili, create a spinach stuffed Venison Tenderloin, make some incredible breakfast link sausage, and a few other tricks we have.
September 13th – Cooking With Beer - Girls, this class isn't just for the guys!! Beer can be used for more than just a beverage. In this class we will show you several different applications this great drink can provide. Some of the dishes may include; beer batter for fish or shrimp, a crab boil (or shrimp boil), Irish Stout Chicken, and Asparagus w/ a honey garlic sauce. Bring your own bottle of beer and we will find something to cook with it!!
September 18th – Sushi Night, All You Can Eat - In this popular class, you will learn the art of rolling your very own Sushi Rolls. Come learn how to make your favorite including the dynamite roll, california roll, spider roll, or shrimp tempura roll. And contrary to popular belief, you do not have to have raw fish in your Sushi.
September 27th – Italian Dinner Class, Saltimbocca Alla Romana - In this class you will learn the basics of Italian cooking with preparation, execution, & tasting!! You will create Saltimbocca Alla Romana, (Veal Scallops w/ mozzarella, prosciutto, & sage), braised sweet & sour onions, & Italian Roasted potatoes

August 4th – Orange Chicken – This class starts with chicken which is baked in orange juice and sweetened even more with brown sugar. It also comes with rice with a twist and yummy lemon squares to finish it off. This menu promises to be a favorite summer meal.
August 11th – Homemade Spaghetti – This class will remind you of the wonderful aroma of mom’s homemade spaghetti. The sauce is made from scratch to perfection with cheesy garlic bread to add to its flavor. A favorite for any Italian loving child. We finish this meal off with Thumbprint Cookies for dessert
August 18th – Cheese Encrusted Fish Filet –All kids love cheese. This class will take that love of cheese and apply it to seafood with a wonderful cream cheese blend encrusting fish fillets. To supplement this dish we have Almond Green Beans and Tie-Dye Rice Crispy Treats to top it off
August 25th – Kids Choose Dinner! – For this finale, the kids will get to choose their favorite dishes from the previous three weeks and serve their parents dinner when they are picked up. Parents will show up to a dressed dinner table (with proper table settings) and be served by the junior chefs.

Prices for the adult classes are $50 per adult for the class and meal. The price for the kids class is $100 for the month long series, or $35 per class if you can’t make all four classes.
