Asheville, NC, July 26, 2007 – A three hundred page compilation of pioneer newspaper woman Pearl Playford’s columns is now available at no charge through a special program from the publisher, Reminiscing Books. Reminiscing With Pearl Playford, Columns From The Watervliet Record will be given away free via email, one column each day.
“Because we believe that Pearl provided valuable insight into many historical local and national events, and to be sure the columns she wrote are available for all to read and enjoy, we decided to offer the book free by subscription,” states Richard Russell of Reminiscing Books.
To subscribe to the unique program, readers need only sign up at the publisher’s website ReminiscingBooks.com. They will then receive the entire book free, A-Column-A-Day, delivered directly to their personal email box. Russell advises that subscribers are under no obligation to purchase anything and their email addresses are safe and will never be sold or rented out by the publisher.
About Pearl Playford:
In the early 1900's Pearl Playford embarked on a newspaper career that would continue for over fifty years. When nearly 80 years of age she began a weekly column, Reminiscing With Pearl Playford, for The Watervliet Record. Pearl wrote of Southwestern Michigan history, national politics, world history, women's rights, prohibition, holidays, religion and even the weather. Miss Playford quoted old records and other sources extensively, especially newspaper and magazine articles she had clipped and saved in scrapbooks over the decades.
