HOUSTON, TX - Putting their volunteer skills to good use, Realtor Ann Eschenfelder and five of her coworkers from the Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors Champions office spent a recent Saturday morning working on a Habitat for Humanity home which is being built solely by women.Eschenfelder was joined recently by her assistant Kelly Tifft and fellow real estate agents Iona Alphonso, Penny Clissold, Beatrice Bunyan and Julie Neuneker. The women worked on a Saturday laying and grouting tile for the three-bedroom, one-bath home for a single mother and her children in Tomball. The home is being built by the Northwest Harris County Habitat for Humanity chapter.
Eschenfelder said the time spent working with her colleagues was worthwhile and even taught her a thing or two. "It was fabulous, everybody had a good time. We laid tile, which is something I had never done before, so it was great to see that I'd actually done it."
Not only did Eschenfelder lend her time and efforts to building the home, she contributed $5,000 to its cost, money she secured through a Prudential Cares Volunteer Grant she was awarded a few months ago.
Tifft said it was the first time she had participated with the organization. "I loved it. I felt that I was giving back and helping somebody who would never own a house otherwise."
Now that she's had a taste of charity work, Tifft is eager to do more and plans to attend Saturday builds in the future. "I had thought about working with Habitat for Humanity before, but I never had the time," said Tifft. "Now I'm going to make the time."
The Habitat for Humanity house dedication was held on July 21.
