Softtek Opens Regional Service Center in La Plata, Argentina

La Plata, Argentina, July 22, 2007 - Softtek, a global provider of IT and business process solutions and the largest private IT service provider in Latin America, announced the opening of its new center in the city of La Plata, Argentina, 30 miles south of the nation’s capital Buenos Aires as part of its expansion plan in Argentina.

The new center will host 140 professionals, which will add to its existing 200-person workforce in Argentina. La Plata, in the province of Buenos Aires with a population of nearly one million, represents an important opportunity for Softtek because of the availability of highly qualified talent, capabilities of its universities and increasing interest of local and state governments to further develop the software industry.

The ceremony, which was attended by La Plata Mayor Dr. Julio Alak, served also as the stage for the signing of the agreement to create the new La Plata Technological Forum, which integrates the efforts of the region’s public, private and educational sectors for the purpose of increasing its competitiveness in the knowledge economy.

“This is a great opportunity for Softtek. There is an enormous potential that we had not discovered previously. Most companies expect talented people to migrate or commute to Buenos Aires on a daily basis. Today we are offering great development opportunities for people in this city, a place with excellent quality of life,” said Mauro Mattioda, executive director for Softtek Argentina.

The new service center will be dedicated to serve the continent’s south cone region (Argentina, Chile and Uruguay) and will increase the company’s capabilities to serve its existing client base by providing extended service hours and increased capability for software development. The project required an initial investment of over US$650,000, while further investments will be directed to quality initiatives such as CMMi and process digitization. With these efforts, Softtek aims to integrate the center into its Global Delivery Model in the near future.

Argentina’s Vice President Daniel Scioli closed the ceremony by saying, “For the development of the Province of Buenos Aires, it is fundamental to tightly integrate our universities and productive sectors through active public policies. Our challenge is to constantly add value to these initiatives.”
