Jaxtr User Base Doubles to 500,000 in Past 27 Days
July 23, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Jaxtr, the company that links your phone to the Web, today announced that its registered user base has reached 500,000 worldwide. Jaxtr has doubled its membership each month since the launch of its public service in March. Over 12,000 users now register per day to call friends and family overseas at the same cost and with the same convenience as calling a friend down the street. In reaching this milestone, jaxtr also announced the addition of local direct-dial numbers in 18 additional countries, namely India, Russia, South Africa, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Panama, El Salvador, Jamaica, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Germany, Hong Kong and China.
These local direct-dial numbers enable jaxtr users to call friends and family abroad without incurring international charges, even if placing the call from a mobile phone. Likewise, the recipient can receive the call on any ordinary landline or mobile phone.
There is no charge to use local numbers provided by jaxtr, and there is not even a need to register with jaxtr to obtain local numbers for calling jaxtr friends abroad. People simply click on the jaxtr link of their friend and enter their number. Then, their phone rings, their friend's phone rings and jaxtr connects the call.
By saving the local direct-dial number that jaxtr displays on their mobile and dialing it the next time they call their friend abroad, people bypass expensive international phone charges.
Jaxtr enables people all over the world to call their friends abroad the same way they call their domestic friends – simply by dialing a local number on their mobile or landline phone. This means people all over the world can use the minutes included in their domestic calling plans to make international calls to friends and family in over 220 countries.
“Now, for the first time, the majority of the world’s population can make phone calls to friends, family and business contacts all over the world at the same cost and with the same convenience as phoning a friend down the street,” stated jaxtr CEO Konstantin Guericke. “No download is required, and our direct numbers can be dialed from any type of mobile phone or even ordinary landline phones.”
The countries in which jaxtr provides local direct-dial numbers are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States and Venezuela.
The 52 countries in which jaxtr provides local direct-dial numbers account for two thirds of the world’s population. 50 percent of the 500,000 registered jaxtr users live in the U.S., India and China; 70 percent of all jaxtr users are in their 20s.
Jaxtr is currently in public beta. Jaxtr works with the world’s most popular social networks and communities, including MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Orkut, Craigslist, eBay, LiveJournal and Blogger. The basic jaxtr service will remain free to users even past the beta period. In the second half of 2007, the company plans to start earning revenue from new premium services it plans to build for its power users.
