TS3Alliance launches the industry’s first global security standard for recharge card manufacturers
July 19, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
The TS³Alliance today announced its global security standard and accreditation scheme for telecoms scratchcard suppliers. The first of its kind, the TS³ scheme will provide both manufacturers and telecoms operators with a global benchmark for security, backed up by a comprehensive audit scheme. The Alliance itself has been formed by ChaseWaterford and FML, recognised experts in the field of risk management in the global communications industry. Building on their work with the GSM Association, operating its Security Accreditation Scheme for smartcard suppliers, the new TS³ scratchcard security standard brings together all relevant security elements to provide a global benchmark for scratchcard manufacturers.
Speaking at the scheme’s launch, Max Kennett, Director, ChaseWaterford set out the drivers for the formation of the TS3 Alliance, and creation of the scheme itself - “Although most operators are aware of the value of the assets being created by manufacturers, many do not have the time or specialist resources to visit potential suppliers’ sites and really understand how effective the security controls are. Through TS3 we will enable security-conscious telecoms operators to find suppliers who take their security responsibilities seriously”.
James Messham, Director, FML added, “Recharge cards or vouchers are still the primary mechanism for distributing pre-paid telephone credit in many parts of the world. Both the operator and supplier must take their security responsibilities seriously if they are to protect themselves. Unfortunately, a number of operators have learnt this lesson the hard way, having suffered significant costs as a result of duplicate production, theft of cards or leakage of recharge code data somewhere in the supply chain. The TS3 scheme provides a fantastic opportunity for responsible suppliers to demonstrate the strength of their security controls to operators, and to attract new business as a result”.
The TS3Alliance is currently in discussions with a number of suppliers about initial certification audits. Other suppliers and operators interested in finding out more about the certification scheme and process are encouraged to contact TS3 through the website at www.ts3alliance.org.
