(SAVANNAH, GA) Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Savannah is proud to announce its president, Sonny Colley, will be doing a media tour in various locations throughout Savannah. During this time, he plans to speak about teens and credit, and how credit relates to the college years and beyond. CCCS is recommending parents take action now to show teens the value of good credit history and smart financial decisions. Some of the key tips Colley will explain during his media tour will include starting your teen off with a credit card tied to your account and reviewing monthly statements together. He will also explain how rescuing your teen, should they go on a credit “binge,” could harm their opportunity to understand the importance of maintaining good credit.
The problem, Colley says, lies in the lack of education of both the teen and the parents.
“If the parent doesn’t know how to teach their kid about credit, how’s the kid supposed to make sure they maintain a good credit score?” Colley says.
“As parents, it’s our responsibility to teach them about credit. Then, they can go out into the real world armed with knowledge and hopefully, they won’t make the mistake of living off credit like so many Americans do.”
Colley will appear on local television and radio stations to explain, in detail, how to educate teens about credit. Check your local listing for dates and times.
