NEW YORK, N.Y.— NYC’s Bravest will volunteer and hit the streets of Times Square and Penn Station on Thursdays this summer, July 19th, July 26th, August 2nd and August 9th from 3-8 p.m. to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) 2nd Annual Fill-the-Boot campaign in Manhattan. Members of the executive board of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) and Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) met with MDA and representatives from the FDNY in order to make this second Fill-the-Boot possible.

Proceeds raised during the streetside campaign will help support MDA services and research programs in Manhattan. The money raised will also be added to the total funds raised throughout North America by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) for the year by the Fill-the-Boot campaign and will be presented locally by representatives and members of the UFOA & UFA at MDA’s Annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon in September.

FDNY Captain Peter Kearney encourages New Yorkers to participate in the Fill-the-Boot campaign by donating. “My son Kevin, was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease and until a cure is found, his future is unknown. I ask you to join this noble and important effort- one that will bring MDA to its ultimate, lifesaving goal, cures and treatments… a goal that my family and I desperately long for.”

Fill-the-Boot campaigns are among the primary ways in which fire fighters across the country have raised over $253 million nationwide for MDA’s fight against neuromuscular diseases since 1954. IAFF members also hold softball tournaments and other special events to benefit the MDA.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases. MDA is one of the world’s leading national health agencies, fostering research and patient care. MDA’s programs are funded almost entirely by the voluntary contributions of concerned individuals and cooperating organizations.
