The Australian digital music label, Hidden Shoal Recordings, today announced the official release of Autumn Magnets, the new EP by Australian ambient rock outfit Bury the Sound. With the opening strains of ‘What Would One Become’ the Autumn Magnets EP opens the door to an emotionally charged landscape masterfully terra formed by the Melbourne based instrumental four piece. Lush, sweeping guitars weave themselves into a rising insistency as they interplay with drifting piano, driving basslines and powerhouse drumming. Bury the Sound’s elegant, cinematic songs continually transform themselves and develop an all too rare sense of flux and movement.
The band steadfastly refuse to follow the well trodden path of hosts of instrumental outfits, weaving a rich musical tapestry that draws as much upon ’70s legends Fleetwood Mac and Pink Floyd as it does from contemporary masters such as Do Make Say Think and Tortoise.
“Autumn Magnets is a glorious snapshot of the enormous potential of Bury the Sound… This is instrumental shoegaze at its best” - Music Emissions
“Autumn Magnets sees Bury the Sound operating in the stratosphere somewhere between early Mogwai and the unpredictable space rock genre and provides some wonderfully dynamic slabs of instrumental rock” - Angry Ape
Autumn Magnets is now available in all good digital music stores including iTunes, eMusic, Sony Connect, Rhapsody and the HSR Store. The EP will be launched on the 5th of July at Pony in Melbourne, Australia.
Bury the Sound was initially formed in 2004 when flame haired classical pianist Halina Porecki placed an ad in the Melbourne street press, looking to form an instrumental band. Drummer Shannon Hayes had been playing in local band The Fates and collecting a formidable range of tom-toms; bassist Simon Jaunay was fresh from a stint living in England, playing with successful indie-rockers Birdman Rally; and English guitarist Tim Clarke had recently migrated to Australia and was looking to expand upon his usual shoegazey four track dabblings.
In July 2005 the band recorded a four-track demo EP that was enthusiastically picked up by local radio. Soon after, they began playing in venues around the city with a range of Melbourne luminaries such as Radiant City, One Hundred Years and Tarcutta, establishing a reputation for their intense, moving performances.
Hidden Shoal Recordings is an Australian-based independent digital music label whose current catalogue includes releases that slip between the edges of experimental ambient work, shoegazing pop, post-rock and indie rock. The label has earned a reputation for releasing exciting and engaging new independent music that is not bound by genre or style.
