At this year’s Carling Weekend Leeds Festival, the best unsigned bands from the Midlands, North of England and Scotland will get the chance to play to over 70,000 festival goers thanks to Topman. Following the success of the Topman Unsigned Stage at last year’s event, festival organisers Mean Fiddler and Topman are delighted to announce details of how bands can apply to win a place performing on the Topman Unsigned Stage at Bramham Park, Leeds UK this summer.Due to the immense pressure of bands looking to play the North’s only festival, Mean Fiddler last year decided to include a stage for the best unsigned talent. Hailed as one of the highlights of last year’s event, the chosen bands were selected from hundreds of demos. Emphasising Mean Fiddler’s continued dedication to supporting bands from grass root level through to main stage triumph, the Carling Weekend Leeds Festival organisers are delighted that the Topman Unsigned Stage is returning this year even bigger and better.
All bands playing the stage last year were from the North of England and the presence of the stage indicated the support that the festival provides to the local music scene. The stage was launched to promote the region's aspiring bands and help them gain national and international recognition.
Topman are a firm supporter of young talent both in music and men's fashion, promoting new bands and artists and giving them the opportunity to play at brand events and now on the Topman Unsigned Stage at this year’s Carling Weekend Leeds Festival.
"For a long while we've been actively supporting young talent within the fashion industry and now we're pleased to be able to do the same for young people in the music industry. Being able to give young unsigned bands the opportunity to perform at one of the world's biggest and most credible music festivals is brilliant." said a spokesman for Topman.
Demos can be handed in on CD format at the following selected Topman stores from June 23rd 2007: Dundee (Murraygate) , Glasgow (Argyle Street & Buchanan St), Newcastle (Eldon Square), Middlesbrough (Linthorpe Rd), Leeds (Briggate & St Johns Centre), Sheffield (Fargate & Meadowhall), York (Coppergate), Liverpool (Church Street), Preston (Fishergate), Manchester (Arndale), Nottingham (Victoria Centre), Birmingham (Bullring). The deadline for all entries is July 13th 2007 and selection will be announced July 17th 2007.
The Leeds Festival is part of the Carling Weekend, a pair of three day annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds each year. This year the festivals will be running from Friday 24th of August to Sunday 27th August, with the campsites opening on Wednesday the 22nd. The Carling Weekend Reading And Leeds Festivals are headlined by The Smashing Pumpkins, Razorlight and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
