Internationally respected writing instructor Karen Blomain will conduct a week-long workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, October 6-13, 2007, titled Personal Writing: Poetry and Memoir. Blomain, who recently retired from the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown, Professional Writing Program, has taught writing throughout the United States, as well as in Mexico, Ireland, France, Austria, and Russia. A gifted teacher, Blomain conducts workshops that both nurture and inspire. A student at Blomain’s 2007 Irish workshop expressed it as, “Karen has the knack for helping writers to discover the stories lurking in their subconscious…I believe all writers, regardless of their backgrounds and levels of expertise, would benefit from Karen's instruction.”
With a long list of publishing credits as an award winning poet and essayist, Blomain’s 2004 published novel, A Trick of Light, was optioned by Barwood Films, Barbra Streisand’s production company. Karen’s first stage play, a collaboration with her husband, Michael Downend, titled An American Wife, opened to full houses and excellent reviews this spring at the equity Northeast Theatre in Pennsylvania.
